Best nine 2026: same grid, different question

“Best nine” and “top nine” describe the same object. The difference is who chooses — and that changes everything about what the card says.

If you have seen “best nine” and “top nine” used for the same December grid, you were not confused: both describe nine posts laid out three by three with the year in a corner.

Three ways to choose the nine

  1. Camera roll. You pick nine photos you like. The result is a mood board: it may include unpublished images, and it shows no numbers.
  2. Ranking. The app reads the posts you published and ranks them by one metric. The result is a recap of your year as an account.
  3. Personal edit with numbers. Your nine, next to what they scored. The gap between your taste and your audience is the most interesting part of the card.

Which metric deserves the “best”?

Likes are the default because they are the oldest public number. But likes reward reach, not quality. For a creative account, saves are usually the more honest compliment: someone decided to keep the post.

Comments are the wildcard. A recap by comments often surfaces the posts you had forgotten, because the thread was better than the image.

What to do with a quiet year

Not every year produces nine hits. An honest recap can say that: fewer posts, one metric, a line about the pause. A “best nine” that pretends a quiet year was loud is the reason most recaps feel interchangeable.

Practical rule

One metric, one grid. If you want to compare, publish two grids side by side — never mix metrics inside the same nine.

Is best nine the same as top nine?

Yes — the same nine-post grid. Only the wording differs by country and year.

Can I use my camera roll?

You can, but it is a mood board rather than a recap: no ranking, no counters, and possibly posts you never published.
